Incontinence Aids and NDIS plans

Copy of Warranty and returns cover

Does your child experience bowel or bladder incontinence? Children with developmental delays can sometimes meet the toilet training milestone later. This can often mean extra years in reusable nappies.

You may be able to access an NDIS plan to help cover the costs associated with the delayed toilet training including nappies and medical services. Reusable incontinence aids will be a little more expensive to start with, however long term it can free up funds so that you can continue or expand on other supports and services. Plus you will save a lot of waste from landfill changing to reusable incontinence supports products.

We can help you arrange payment for products through your NDIS plan. Please contact us with details on what you need to arrange an invoice for payment from your plan manager or self-managed plan.

If you are not familiar with the NDIS, below is a brief run-through.

What is the NDIS and an NDIS plan?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme that provides support for all people with disability, it has been designed to support the 4.3 million Australians with a disability. It supports many levels of disability including physical, intellectual and developmental delays. The NDIS is not a welfare system. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.

When talking about the NDIS you will also come across the mention of The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). This is the independent statutory agency that implements the NDIS. In simple terms, the Agency (NDIA) are the ones behind the Scheme (NDIS) ensuring the scheme operates as it should.

NDIS plan eligibility

People aged between 7 – 65 may be eligible for NDIS if they have or are likely to have a permanent and significant disability. Permanent disability means your disability is likely to be lifelong. A significant disability has a substantial impact on your ability to complete everyday activities.

There is an eligibility checker available on the NDIS website, click here for more information on NDIS eligibility for children

NDIS for children under 7

If you have a child under 7 with a disability or developmental delay the NDIS has a system in place to help. There is a national consistent early childhood approach to assist these children in building their capacity and having great inclusion in the community and everyday settings.

Early childhood intervention can be found through an early childhood partner, find out more on this here.

NDIS funding options

There are 3 ways an NDIS plan can be funded.

  1. Self-Funded NDIS – The participant or carer arranges and pays for support then requests reimbursement through their NDIS access portal. Your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or NDIA planner may also help you with your plan.
  2. Plan-managed NDIS – Payments will be made to suppliers and services through a plan management company. The NDIA includes funding in your plan to cover the Plan manager fee and they arrange the support and services you need.
  3. NDIA/Agency Managed – Providers claim directly with the NDIA for support and services delivered to an NDIS participant.

NDIS quality and safeguards

All NDIS-approved service providers are required to follow a Code of Conduct when providing services and support to NDIS participants and ensure they are treating all people with respect and care. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an independent agency that has been established to monitor and improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.

If you have a complaint about an NDIS registered provider, please contact the Disability Services Commissioner on 1800 677 342 for a free and confidential service. For more information about the NDIS please visit the NDIS website, or find and contact your Local Area Coordinator.
